Justin Ohunna Moore, Cultural Threads Creator 2024

Justin Ohunna Moore

Justin Ohunna Moore is a Nigerian American teaching artist born and raised in Buffalo, NY. With studies from Buffalo’s Performing Arts and SUNY Fredonia's School of Music, his independent artistry is shared as Jae Beau in partnerships with OMP Entertainment Group.

I chose this cloak because it compliments movement and reminds me of someone sharing a message. The added rope represents me being tied to so many cultures in the arts and the African Diaspora, as well as having a religious background and spiritual practice. I've read that the more colorful cloaks were reserved for elite high priests. I added many colorful patterns as I am the high priest of my home and accept the call to imitate God as part of a royal priesthood and chosen generation.

This proverb also confirmed the garment: “Who wraps up the oceans in his cloak?” Proverbs 30:4 NLT

In the process of creating this repurposed garment I have felt repurposed and found new appreciation for creating in a new way!

A heartfelt thank you to our funders and sponsors for helping us to realize these projects in full.
